Does someone you know spend lots of time in the kitchen? Or perhaps you want to know about the gadgets that will make your own kitchen life easier? Here are my favs.
I’ve spent years in the kitchen learning from my mom, grandma, and great-grandma since I was a little kid. Most of those years were during simpler times when there were limited gadgets and more things prepped by hand. Instead of a round cookie cutter, we used a drinking glass, dishes were all washed by hand, and there were no disposable kitchen gloves.
These days, there are tools for just about everything. And there’s probably been a time when I’ve owned each and every one of them. I feel I am uniquely qualified, not only as a gadget junkie but also as an obsessively organized foodie and mom to share with you my favorites.
Below I’ve compiled a list of a few of the items that are lucky enough to hold prime real estate in my kitchen drawers.
These plastic-coated cardboard boxes are the best in kitchen storage dispensing. Whether you use them plastic wrap, aluminum foil, or parchment paper, you need these in your life. They have non-slip rubber feet, magnetic closures, cutting sliders, and offer one handed use.
I don’t love putting plastic in the microwave. But what I do love is that these glass food storage containers also go in the oven! You don’t have to transfer food into something else to heat it up. The locking lids are spill-proof and stack so neatly in the fridge. I put all of my leftovers in these containers, and my meal prep too. I am left with a beautifully organized fridge and I can see the content of all the containers…and then pop them directly in the microwave or oven capabilities when needed (Note that the lids are not oven safe).
This is the queen of coffee machines. The VirtuoLine machines make both espresso and coffee (in three sizes- 5 oz, 8 oz, and 14oz). The Aeroccino is Nespresso’s little sidekick that steams and froths your milk for that perfect coffee shop taste and style.
This gadget is used to break up ground meats while you’re cooking them on the stovetop. I like my chili and my meat sauce with very fine pieces of ground chicken, and this nylon masher gives you just the right tool for the job. It’s heatproof so it can be used while the flame is on.
These reusable sheet tray liners are made of silicone. They replace parchment paper, aluminum foil, and oil sprays. I love them because nothing sticks to them! Sweet sauces, cheese—it all slips right off! Since they are made of silicone, they are hard to mark as meat, dairy, or parve so I store them directly in the tray they go with so there’s no confusion.
I originally bought these for outdoor barbecues, but they are so much more useful! Yes, they make my bbq or outdoor entertaining look much nicer, but I also use them indoors! When I have company, I love to set a beautiful table with placemats, dishes, napkin rings, and cloth napkins. But inevitably, the whole tablescape gets ruined with the addition of brightly colored plastic or paper dishes for the little kids. Instead, I set the shatterproof melamine dishes for the kids and they still go great with my overall decor! The added bonus was when I found dishwasher-safe melamine plates. There are tons of different styles out there!
These bowls are great! They’re microwave and dishwasher safe and you can squeeze them for easy pouring! They come in different sizes and colors for meat and dairy.
