We’re so excited to bring you the ultimate collab: ‘A Sisters’ Tale’ x Project Inspire. Doesn’t sound familiar? Let’s backtrack to the beginning of the story. Way back when, Mrs. Gitty Zolty, a Toronto native, worked with Bais Yaakov schools in Toronto to direct their plays. She loved being part of the productions and helping the girls bring out their creative side and shine. Over COVID, when the world was lightening up but regulations in Canada continued to double down, the high school girls had no way to put on a production. Not wanting to miss the opportunity for creative freedom and the achdus a production brings, they decided to produce a film for the girls to create with Mrs. Zolty and a friend’s help.
After the successful high-school film concluded, Mrs. Zolty was inspired to create a film of her own: a film with uplifting and Torahdig values, performed by women, for women, and with an unmatched quality level. She wrote a script taking place in the backdrop of World War I, then hired screenwriters to ensure it was top-quality, historians to fact-check, and enlisted her friends Chama Schachner and Rivki Tennenbaum to work with her to bring the script to perfection.
Then the real fun started! Zoom auditions were held, rehearsals began, costumes were fitted, music was written, produced, and recorded, and the film was underway. All throughout, Mrs. Zolty and her friends worked tirelessly to keep the quality professional and the values perfectly Torah-aligned. Eventually, after months of writing, rehearsing, filming and editing, ‘A Sisters’ Tale’ was ready to premiere.
I begged Mrs. Zolty for a sneak peek of the film, and here’s what she told me. ‘A Sisters’ Tale’ takes place in the backdrop of World War I. All the men are away at war, so one mother, a strong woman with deep convictions, invites her married daughters to come back and live with her and her single daughter. With the war looming in the background, you’ll come to meet and love a diverse group of sisters, with real struggles and real flaws, and see how they grow and develop throughout this time living with their mother. It’s not just entertainment, the story is uplifting, beautiful, and really leaves you with a strong message. The music throughout the film is top-notch and adds so much meaning to the story.’
Mrs. Zolty wanted the proceeds of this amazing film to go to Tzedakah, so after an initial premiere event in Toronto to benefit a school for children with special needs that received incredible reviews, she contacted Project Inspire to partner with them in premiering ‘A Sister’s Tale.’
Project Inspire is widely-known for its incredible work inspiring observant Jews to connect with, care about and share our precious Jewish heritage and Torah with less-connected Jews. ‘Premiering ‘A Sisters’ Tale,’ Rabbi Mordechai Tropp from Project Inspire explained, ‘a project that empowers women to use their talents like acting and singing in a Torah-true manner, is a Kiddush Hashem for all Jews. For frum women, it’s a chance to enjoy quality entertainment and come away with a beautiful message. For non-observant women, it’s a chance to see what the Torah world can offer and bring them closer to Yiddishkeit.’
