It Isn’t Bedtime without These Preschool Book Favorites

You loved the tween book list and asked for a preschool version. Your wish is our command!

I firmly believe that every child’s library must be started with a copy of Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.

We’ve gone through several copies (including a Hebrew one we bought in Israel when we realized we left our copy at home and simply couldn’t have bedtime without it) and it’s one of my favorite baby gifts for the people who don’t need another single outfit.

While all of Dr. Seuss’s books are fabulous, we particularly like Dr. Seuss’s ABC. My kids can pretty much recite the book by heart.

Another prolific author who just can’t miss is Mo Willems.

Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and other books in the pigeon series are our favorites.

Are You Ready To Play Outside? and the rest of the elephant and piggie series are also lots of fun.

The Lite Girl Series featuring Yael by Malky Weinstock is a constantly expanding series that teaches very relatable messages featuring an adorable little girl. Bonus—they all come with an audio CD so your little ones can listen to them on their own. As my little one is getting older, I noticed that she’s now following along with the words on the page as she listens. Great reading readiness skill!

Some titles like Yael Gets a Guest are available online, but the full series should be available at your local Judaica store.

Imagine If by Rabbi Zeegel is a whimsical and fun read with some positive lessons for children and the adults who read it to them.

A classic favorite is Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina—it’s been a preschool favorite since 1940!
