I have an obsession with dishes. But it kind of ends there.
I have my parents to thank for marrying me off with service for 12 for both milchig and fleishig. The downside of this luxury is that I never really have an excuse to purchase a new set.
Also, when I think of a new set, I think huge expense – 12 dinner plates, 12 bowls, 12 salad, 12 dessert plates–until it dawned on me–I can purchase just 2 or 4! Yes, 2 plates, 2 bowls and even cutlery for just a few! This is not for entertaining – or for guests. This stash is for weekdays – when the alternative is plastic or it works when having one or two guests over for brunch. I use them to serve just the adults on a regular weeknight. Somehow the average Tuesday night dinner suddenly becomes upgraded to the next level, and somehow you also feel like a really good wife. (See what a dish can do?)
I started a random dish cabinet and when trends change and I find a cool new plate that I wish I can purchase a set of — I go ahead and splurge on just 2 instead.
