We’ve already been enjoying the Ki Heim Chayeinu Masmidei HaShabbos campaign, here’s the full review you’ve been waiting for.
We’ve been enjoying the Masmidei HaShabbos booklets (if you don’t know what these are, read our previous round-up here!), so today we’re going to go through the booklets to show you what you can expect from Masmidei HaShabbos.
There are different booklets you can download depending on your kids’ ages: one geared towards 5th-6th grade and one towards 7th-8th grade, separate for boys and girls. Pro tip? Give or take a couple years: kids of all ages love these! If your kids don’t get these in school, you can download them here, or scroll down and put in your email here to get them straight to your inbox weekly.
Okay, so what’s in here that your kids will enjoy so much? First of all, the graphics are gorgeous and so so inviting. The booklets just look fun! Second of all, the missions.
- Mission #1 LEARN! Learn from the booklet for at least 15 minutes!
- Mission #2 ELEVATE! Sing this week’s zemer or daven the tefillah with greater kavannah!
- Mission #3 DISCUSS! Discuss this week’s booklet with your family at your Shabbos table! (We love this mission because everyone gets involved.)
- Mission #4 REMEMBER! Answer all 7 bonus questions!
Anddd… complete missions 3 & 4 for all six weeks and you will be entered into the grand raffle for FREE tickets to the Shabbos Ma’amad for you and your family!
Now, let’s get into the booklets themselves. First, there’s a d’var torah (easy to read and understand, kid-friendly language). Next, a Shabbos story. Weeks 1-2 featured adapted excerpts from ‘All For The Boss’ by Rebbetzin Ruchama Shain, all about her father Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Herman and the pains he took to make sure to observe Shabbos in the fullest.
Then comes ‘Tefillah Time,’ when Masmidei HaShabbos breaks down a zemer for Shabbos. Learning the English translation and commentary on the zemer really makes saying the tefillah so much more meaningful (for your children, and for yourself!).
Next, Hilchos Shabbos. This isn’t your classic ‘do this, don’t do that,’ that’s the opposite of inspiring. Learn about a mitzvah of Shabbos (weeks 1 and 2 delved into Kiddush), and bring understanding into the ‘why’ we do what we do, making your child stand taller and prouder at the mitzvos he or she keeps.
After that comes our personal favorite, can you guess? The fiction serial story, of course! The kids love reading it, and may or may not turn to this page first.
Finally comes 7 questions for the 7th day: review what you’ve learned by answering questions.
These booklets are inspiring, beautiful, and have already enhanced our Shabbos experience so much. Download them here and join us!
Bonus! Learn Zemiros with these videos from Masmidei HaShabbos!
