Mix-and-match your tablecloths, dishes, and napkins for fun every time.
One of the things I enjoy most is setting a beautiful Shabbos and Yom Tov table.
Setting a beautiful table does not have to break the bank. There are so many affordable options to create an elegant tablescape.
The base of the tablescape will always be the tablecloth. It’s a great way to add color and interest to any table. How affordable can they get? My favorite, most affordable cloth is the Chambray from Target – it’s $20 for a 120 x 60. It doesn’t get better than that! (They also come in smaller sizes).
These are my party tablecloths; I have a bunch of them to use when we’re hosting or whenever we need to open up more tables.
Another great option for getting a low-priced tablecloth is to buy fabric from fabric.com (which is now on Amazon) and you can get any size needed and have the edges hemmed. Here are some pretty florals. I have had luck with the velvets, vinyls, and even cotton fabrics that wash well.
My weekly go-to tablecloth is the ones from Adorn Your Table. They are beautiful high quality tablecloths that are a little bit more of an investment–but worth it! They’re well-priced for the quality and options.
There are great options for textures and colors and the perfect base for a beautiful table.
They wash beautifully–we spill grape juice every single week and it always comes out.
Now that the tablecloth is set, it’s time for the dishes. My new favorite thing is to buy affordable plates and mix up my tablescapes every week. I have plates from as low as 50 cents to $3.00 dollars that I use often! My new favorite Shabbat plates are from the Dollar Tree! They are microwave and dishwasher safe and feel nice and heavy and no one would ever know they were $1.25! I was looking for some green plates for my new tablecloth and they were the perfect fit and definitely the perfect price.
On Pesach I use Dollar Tree glass plates as well. The Dollar Tree has great plates, glasses and mug options!
I also love affordable plates from Target like these white glass dinner plates for $3.00. This stoneware option is also $3.00 and comes in a few colors. A great porcelain white plate is always chic for $5.00. These Hearth and Hand Tonal Bamboo Melamine plate come with matching salad plates and bowls. The plates are 4 for $11.99. Melamine is a little more casual but done right and set with all the fittings it is a great kid-friendly option that will still look very elegant.
You can’t get more affordable than a plate for fifty cents and these plates are plastic but thick and can also look beautiful. I have the pink ones and love to use them to add some color to my table without committing to buying expensive pink plates which I won’t be using all the time.
I recently bought new plates from H&M when they have their 20 percent off entire site sales and these really do look like expensive china and have been holding up beautifully and add such a pretty charm to my table. They have the set with salad plates and smaller and larger bowls as well. I love how they look on my lace tablecloth!
I love a cloth napkin and try to use cloth napkins every week to upgrade our table. I throw them in the wash with the tablecloth after Shabbos. All of my cloth napkins are from Target (notice a trend? I love Target.) These Easy Care Cloth Napkins are $10 for 4 and come in lots of colors.
This Amazon flatware is perfect for a great modern flatware that is an affordable option. It is $40 for 40 pieces and I call it my simcha silverware because I bought it for my daughter’s Bat Mitzvah that I hosted.
I use them often since then as well! Another option that comes in silver and matte black is this great Amazon set which comes in a set for 30. The Amazon flatware is a lighter weight feel for that price. For a heftier, sturdier set I purchased this set in silver during On The Table’s annual Black Friday Sale.
Having a good balance of investment pieces + affordable pieces to mix and match and change things up is a great way to have fun creating beautiful tables for your family and guests!

This is a really helpful and smart article. It’s easy to make a table look beautiful with expensive items but the real challenge is making something look really good but on a much cheaper budget. These ideas all look lovely.
