During the year, boys are super simple with their polos or white shirts and dark pants. But what about when it’s time to play? What sweats and tees will they love?
Boys are so simple all year long. Enough navy chinos and polos for the younger boys, swapped out for the white button down of their choosing once they’re older. We simply find the brand that has a fit they like and stock up.
But summer changes all that, because now they need their casual clothes.
After speaking to my friends before sending my boys to sleepaway, it was evident to me that sending a boy away is much easier than sending a girl. I didn’t really need to shop for much. My boys play lots of sports so they already had an ample supply of sweats and t-shirts .
There was only one thing I was told that is the virtual uniform in camp: Adidas sweatpants.
I was in luck. One son already loved Adidas sweats and owned quite a few. Just a couple more pairs and my shopping was done.
Here’s the super simple guide of what boys are wearing right now. I find that most boys like to wear sweatpants and t-shirts, not even shorts so much, even though it’s hot. It makes things a little simpler because they don’t need such a variety of clothing like girls might. Just pick a favorite and buy it in multiples!
These Adidas Tiro 19 pants are the most current style, made in a breathable fabric for summer. I think Zappos makes it a little easier than Amazon to see which colors are available in your son’s size. Both sites offer them at a discounted rate. The Tiros are baggier on top and more tapered on the bottom, so even though this style is more popular now, your son may be more comfortable in the classic Tricot style below.
Note: Read the description when purchasing Adidas pants. Some are fleece-lined, which may be great for winter or cool country nights, but not great for summer days.
IMPORTANT ON ADIDAS SIZING. Adidas sizes run a full size larger than typical. A size Small (8) is more similar to a children’s 10-12 and the Medium (10/12) will fit a boy that typically wears 12/14.
Now, what about t-shirts?
Let’s keep it really simple. I think most of us are a combination of Mom #1 and Mom #2. We want an economic option to get them through everyday with a few cool tee’s thrown in to make the boys happy.
$5-$6 and Under
Mom #1 wants to just get what looks clean and classy at the cheapest possible price. Boys look great in the simple Old Navy Softest V-Neck (also available in crew neck or raglan for a little more style) or the H&M V-Neck,
available in 3 packs for little boys and 2 packs for big boys.
The Cool Tees
Mom #2 wants to get her son the coolest tees that get him excited. Today, that’s 1) Under Armour 2) Adidas and 3) Abercrombie.
It can get a little complicated finding the right Under Armour tees that don’t have major graphics or words without overpaying (they can go up to $20 or more). Here’s a basic Underarmour Big Tech Logo Solid Tee at a good price.
Here’s another good deal on a basic Under Armour.
Likewise, the Plate Icon tee is also simple enough at a good price.
The MK-1 style is a little pricier, but also minimal on the graphics.
The Stadium Icon tee has a bit more graphics, but is still simple and not overdone.
The boys also like Abercrombie nowadays. There’s a pretty good selection of non-graphic tees at decent prices, including solid color tees, henleys, colorblock tees, and raglan…all the popular types.
