No one likes to wear heavy makeup in the summertime–rather, we want that glowy, pretty look and an easy “throw it on and go” type of makeup routine.
These are some of my favorite-for-summer products with some tips and hacks thrown in!
My Summer Foundation Hack
When it comes to foundation, the focus here is to keep it very light and fresh. You don’t want to feel like you’re wearing something. With this hack, you can lighten up your existing foundation (no, you don’t need to go a shade darker in the summertime) and get your SPF and summer bronze glow in–it’s literally a 3-in-1.
Here’s what to do: First, take whatever foundation you already own and love. My personal favorite is Armani Foundation. I love it. But you don’t have to go buy a new one. Then, take a moisturizer you already have; I’d recommend Aveeno, which has a great moisturizer that has SPF, so it’s perfect for summer. Finally, you need some liquid tanning drops or “bronzing drops.”
There are two types of bronzing drops–one has a glow and will help give skin a dewy look, the other has more of a matte finish. Which you choose is your preference.
Mix together your foundation, moisturizer, and bronzing drops—just one squirt of each–to create a great tinted bronzing foundation. Apply it to your face and it’ll give your skin a stunning summer look.
The Best Blush for Summer
During the summer, try to stay away from powder. For this season, everyone is all into liquid and cream blush; it has a dewier softer finish. Sukiro has an amazing liquid blush that gives a “beautiful not blushy” color–just a hint of natural color for a fresh, flush look. I apply it above the apple of the cheek. I also like to dab a little liquid blush on the center of the nose for a pinky suntan look. There’s another one I like by Rare Beauty–it’s soft, natural, pretty summery–just apply with your finger and tap it into your skin.
Mascara for Summer Days
I found a $4.99 mascara from Ulta that’s cute and amazing and I’m telling all my clients to buy it. It’s a waterproof mascara that lengthens and thickens and does not budge for days and it has a beautiful finish.
Lipstick with a Lip Gloss Look
In the summer, you don’t want to bother with a liner or a long-lasting lipstick that dried out your lips. We just want a soft, creamy fresh pink lipstick–my favorite in that category is CremeSheen Lipstick in Peach Blossom from Mac–it’s great soft pink/peach that looks great on everyone. The formula is amazing. It goes on like a lipstick but looks like a gloss. It’s so perfect for summer when you want color that stays on lips but looks light (gloss comes off way too quickly).

Thanks for the post, will definitely try! What would you suggest for coverup under foundation for someone with bad skin? The thin foundations dont usuall cover properly

Follow the same routine as in this post. I like to go with a light foundation in the summertime even if your skin is not great. So, when you are done applying foundation mix, take a concealer and tap it on the areas that need a little bit of better coverage. This concealer does not need powder on top; it goes on like a liquid and dries to a powder form and a little bit goes a long way it has a very good coverage. (If you still want to apply powder to set your skin, I would set it with the sheerest powder.)

I also have bad skin, and am wondering if the “natural” “no makeup” look can work for me. What do you think?

I have tried that mascara-looks fabulous, but (on me at least ) it did crumble off over night

Marco Rocks!! We love you!!

Same here regarding the bad skin meaning acne, redness and other unwelcome things.
What do you suggest? I always have to do thick layers to cover everything but it gets yuck in the summer.
