These sunscreens really protect and fill your needs.
Sunscreen.
Most of us at the BCP team grew up in an age where tanned skin was something we worshipped and slathering baby oil before baking in the sun for hours was completely acceptable.
But, no more. We have come a long way. And we now know the importance of applying sun lotion daily. Whether winter or summer. We have learnt about the dangers of the sun’s rays and are raising awareness within our own daughters and sons, urging them to apply sunscreen daily as well. But, are all sunscreens the same? Which sunscreen does the Between Carpools Team use and love?
Here is what we found.
Dermatologists recommend choosing a sunscreen that has zinc oxide as an active ingredient.
Zinc oxide effectively blocks all parts of the UV spectrum, including both ultraviolet A (UVA) and B (UVB) radiation. Zinc oxide is also very gentle on the skin and is less likely to cause irritation.
For the face, we have tried and liked the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Zinc. It applies well and absorbs quickly. Put some on every morning, as a moisturizer or before your usual moisturizer. Apply makeup as usual.
Make this a habit.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Tinted Mineral Ultra-Light Fluid is tinted and is our absolute favorite. Some of us use it as a “CC cream” (color-correcting cream) winter and summer. It’s light, goes on smoothly and gives a real glow. The best part? The tint is universal and “magically” works on all skin types.
Crazy, we know! Try it.
For the body, we liked Trader Joe’s Spray Sunscreen with Zinc Oxide but it’s not sold online.
Still, we thought you should know.
We also tried and loved the spray version from La Roche-Posay, but it’s a bit pricey.
Our kids (some of them lifeguards with long hours in the sun) recommended this Banana Boat Spray. They liked how it sprayed on and how effective it is.
Another great version is this Neutrogena Spray for all around use.
Have a wonderful and healthy summer!
Ulta has a makeup spray that has 30 spf in it, made to make makeup last, so i like to think i think can be reapplied over makeup later too when sunscreen wears off without messing up.
The most effective sunscreens should have zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in them. Most Sunscreens use “chemical blocks” which interact with the body to create an effective sdioxide makeZinc oxide and titanium dioxide create a “physical blocks” which is even more effective.
My child with albinism (the word”albino” is considered by many to be impolite) and most of the other families of people with albinism stick to BLUE LIZARD sunscreen.
Hatzlocho to all and stay safe.
Sorry, there must be something wrong with my phone. I’m having trouble seeing what I’ve typed.
Here to try again….

I found a sunscreen with Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as the active ingredients. However, it is only 30 spf. What is the recommended spf?
Wow! Thank you for the review – sure many will find it very helpful. Sunscreen is actually a necessary thing that helps the skin stay young longer and protects against skin cancer. Don’t neglect using it.
Not only is it really important to find a sunscreen that’s effective and easy to use IT MUST BE FREQUENTLY REAPPLIED THROUGHOUT THE DAY IF YOU OR YOUR KIDS WILL BE OUTDOORS
I’ve seen so many people apply in the morning at pool and think they’re ok until the next day …
Train kids from young age to use sunscreen.
There are even easy to use sunscreen sticks (looks like a glue stick or a deodorant stick) makes it really easy for kids to apply and reapply to their faces.
Good luck !! Have a windy summer and enjoy the sunshine safely 🙂
I have very far skin- which burns extremely easily- and very sensitive skin- which results in rashes if the wrong things are applied.
I generally use cetaphil sunscreen lotion for my whole body. The spray is just not protective enough. Pretty sure it is 50 spf.
Sunscreen will not work if it is not reapplied. I unfortunately put on sunscreen twice at the beach but a third time was necessary and burnt to a crisp. It was severe.
Using the right sunscreen and applying throughout the day is extremely important.
Stay healthy!
