They immediately spotted the calendar when they walked in and ran over. “Ma!! What’s this??” my kids asked me with excitement.

The Dacor (Dacor is short for “Beautiful Days, Core Foundations”) Calendar had just arrived at my home that day, and there it stood on my desk…beautiful, inviting, and exciting.

I had spoken to the creator of the calendar, Chana Schiff, earlier that day. “Everyone that walks into my home goes to check out the calendar. Even my boys. The family calendar concept has been something that Chana has been using in her home for years. “I used to buy a regular calendar. I would fill in the Hebrew dates and buy random stickers that I felt were related to that time of year. My homemade version of a family calendar was definitely messier, but it brought about this concept.

Now, the Dacor calendar has a beautiful, classy look. It would look beautiful hanging in any home. Everything is uniform and everything that would be marked off on a calendar for a Jewish family is there.” During the day, Chana Schiff works as a BCBA Therapist, so she understands well the benefits that structure and planning has for children. “It brings excitement and anticipation of the Yomim Tovim; children can visually see when it’s coming and anticipate and count down towards it. With stickers, the calendar becomes alive. Plus, there’s stickers to mark details everyone will enjoy knowing, like which Shabbos guests are coming, who might be away, or what simcha will be celebrated that week.”

Chana explains that it’s a huge asset to be able to give children the ability to know what’s going to happen. Kids crave structure and they gain confidence when they have it. ‘On Tuesday is PTA and Mommy is going to be out. Oh, next Friday I start leagues!’ Having everything that’s going on in their lives visually organized is super beneficial for kids and their sense of security,” Chana explains. 

And while having a family calendar teacher language skills and numeration, this calendar is also so much fun!

How to Use the Dacor Calendar:
The first day of every month (or at the end of the previous month, if you simply can’t wait!) is when the first wave of excitement comes. Every month has stickers dedicated to that month–let your children help decorate the calendar, adding in the stickers for the Yomim Tovim and Parsha on the correct days. Fill in the candle-lighting times on each Friday, and add the stickers related to other calendar events–simchas, appointments, trips (reference your personal calendar, where you may have marked these things down previously. Note that this is a family calendar, not your personal calendar, so you do not need to include personal appointments and the like). Use stickers to mark upcoming events, or to remember past events (like that bike riding or ice skating trip).

There are stickers for every event you can think of!

You can display one month at a time on a bulletin board, or if you’re using the lucite wall mount, simply remove the previous month and replace it under the magnetic clip.
