Whether your wound is emotional or physical, this month holds the key to healing.
Month: Iyar | Mazel: Shor (bull)
The ultimate prescription for healing lies in the name of this month
What a joy to usher in this new month—a month that is known for its koach to heal. It was during this month that the mahn, which contained healing properties, began to fall in the Midbar.
What better time to heal than during the month that the Torah calls Yerach Ziv, the month of radiance? This is the time of year, dear sisters, that is especially opportune for shedding the layers that block our inner light from shining forth. As the world around us continues to blossom and bloom into full color, our own petals are now most primed to unfurl, uncovering more of our inner beauty and wholeness. It’s the period when, through refining our middos as we count the Omer, more of our internal glow comes to the fore—in the form of increased contentment, serenity, and vitality.
When do we experience the ultimate healing? Rav Menachem Mendel of Vitebsk zt”l (whose yahrzeit is in Iyar) would say that the ultimate prescription for healing lies in the name of this month: אייר, which is an acronym for אני ה׳ רופאיך. Deepening our cognizance of “Ani Hashem Rofecha”—Hashem is the omnipotent Healer—is in itself the true remedy. When the mahn (which is the root in the word emunah) fell, this reality was crystal clear: Hashem is your only Provider, the only One who gives you just what you need. Nowadays, when Hashem’s omnipotence is more concealed, living with this awareness requires constant investment. While Hashem has many effective shlichim, our avodah is to keep in mind that even when we turn to them for assistance or guidance, it is ultimately He who determines the outcome, who plants the ideas in their mind and the expertise in their hands. The more we live and breathe this truth, the further along we move on our road to complete healing, whether physical, emotional, or otherwise.
By deepening our awareness in Hashem’s role as the singular Force who has the capacity to give us just what we need, we experience true healing.
Here’s how to maximize the potential of this month:
1.
Reflect on one area in your life that could use some “healing,” whether it’s a physical ailment, an emotional wound, a relationship rift, or any other struggle.
2.
Every morning of this month, think of this “wound” and visualize yourself injecting it with the Iyar remedy. Verbally or mentally, repeat the “Ani Hashem Rofecha” mantra. What a simple truth that needs constant reiteration… “Hashem, You are the ultimate Healer here. It is You who holds the key to the salvation I seek.” Keep this truth in mind when doing your hishtadlus toward resolving the issue, such as when consulting with specialists.
3.
Observe how much more radiant you feel when you shine a light on this truth, over and over again. Don’t you feel so much more aligned with the bright sunshine and blossoming trees, with Hakadosh Baruch Hu’s beautiful world at this time of year, when you view your circumstances through these eyes? In addition to the overt healing Hashem will send your way in the right time, this internal shift in itself is supremely cathartic.
During the month of Iyar, we celebrate Pesach Sheini, the Yom Tov of second chances. Regardless of where we’ve stood until now in our awareness of “Ani Hashem Rofecha,” that Hakadosh Baruch Hu holds the key to any and all salvation we seek, this is our opportunity to reaffirm our Bitachon in Him and to focus on making it more real. In the merit of our efforts to rely on and connect to the true Healer, may this be the month when all cholim of Klal Yisrael experience a refuah sheleimah and may each of us be zocheh to the salvation that we seek. A radiant month to you and yours!
