Why have more and more parents been turning to DIRFloortime? All the details, below.
If you have concerns with your child’s development, you’ve likely heard of DIRFloortime. ‘There are so many misconceptions associated with Floortime!’ Mrs. Nechi Sprecher of Wondirful Play Therapy Center in Lakewood explains, ‘No, we’re not just playing. Nope, we’re not ‘following your child’s lead’… but we’re also not sitting and directly teaching skills. So what are we doing?

With DIRFloortime, we use typical DEVELOPMENT as our guide and roadmap to help your child fill in developmental gaps. We target areas including social, emotional, and cognitive development, answering questions like ‘Why am I dealing with so many tantrums?’ We look at each child and their INDIVIDUAL needs such as their sensory, motor and language differences and find what makes them unique, and that’s how we differentiate treatment, taking into account questions like, ’Why does my child avoid noisy environments?’ Most importantly, RELATIONSHIPS are a huge concentration in our treatment, because that’s what sets the floor for developmental growth.’ ‘Why can I never get it right with him?!’ More about that, here!

Lots of technical terms, right? Mrs. Shaindy Weiss, of Wondirful Play, explains how those technical terms transition into real growth. ‘Floortime is goal-oriented, intentional, and sets the stage for your child to be a real learner. We use the ‘D-I-R’ to enter your child’s world, meet them where they are, and target direct skills in a natural, play-based setting. By filling the gaps in your child’s developmental foundations, we are enabling your child to acquire skills and integrate them in their life–for real! It’s an authentic and genuine process all accomplished through your child’s strengths, interests(play), and hands-on experiences. DIRFloortime is evidence-based, backed by research and covered by NJ FamilyCare.’
Wondirful Play is a DIRFloortime therapy center centrally located in Lakewood. Wondirful Play was created as a base: to provide parents with weekly sessions where they’re immersed in the Floortime model. Parents join the sessions alongside their child, supervising therapist, and the providing therapist, helping the parent learn techniques that leave them educated and empowered. They provide support in your child’s natural setting, in their school and at home! Wondirful Play also offers Sunday Clubs to clients who’ve ‘graduated’ from being supported individually and are ready to be supported in a group setting. Because Floortime uses a child’s interests, the kids love to come, love to learn, and love to grow!
