Conventional round drains are not really a problem, but if you have a square center drain, you probably struggle with hair clogs. There is a solution!
When you build a new tiled shower these days, the automatic assumption is going to be that you want a square center drain. They’re more current and arguably, more aesthetically pleasing.
And then you start using the shower and you realize you have no way to avoid the hair washing down the drain and clogging it up. Sure you can lift up the cover, but that means snaking out the drain on a regular basis. Gross!

We came across these disposable square mesh covers that stick on the tiles around the drain and no more problems! (Disposable doesn’t mean they need to be replaced every shower. You can just wipe away the collected hair with a tissue and just replace the catcher about once a week or so.) Are they perfect? No. The adhesive leaves a bit of a residue that you have to scrub off, but I’d rather do that than snake a drain, so…

These adhesive drain hair catchers are also available in a linear style. You can just cut them to the size of your linear drain. I’ve only ever seen them in gray, though, so if you have light colored tiles in your shower, they don’t blend in very well.

When ordering, make sure to get a size slightly larger than your drain.
Have a round drain with a pop-up plug? These domed hair catchers work very well.

I have a round one of the mesh thingies for my round shower drain, and it’s great! It’s just the two of using it, so I generally replace every 2 weeks/when I remember
You can also lift the drain cover and put the mesh under it to keep the nice look too
