Find Just the Right Swimsuit for Your Tweens and Teens

When your little girl starts growing up, it can be hard to find swimwear that looks right. We pulled together some favorites that will keep them comfortable and confident in and out of the water.

When the girls are small, we buy swimsuits that are adorable. They’re so fun and easy to find at all price ranges. But as they start maturing, some of those flimsier styles can start getting awkward and ill-fitting. We don’t want our girls tugging and worrying about coverage when they reach that stage of development.

For the most part, think racerback. The straps are positioned in a way that will fit the most snugly over the chest. If a girl is just starting out with training bras or light sports style bras, that’s pretty much all she needs.

And as she gets older, but not quite grown into a woman’s size yes, a swimsuit with removable soft cups or a built-in shelf bra can give her the support she needs. We rounded up some of our favorites for you here. Some girls like to wear two piece suits for ease of changing and/or using the bathroom. As they get older and may not be comfortable in a two-piece that has some exposure in the belly area, or it doesn’t meet their camp dress code, you can find some options of rash guards with matching high-rise bottoms that will have sufficient overlap. If they need some support in the chest, you can add the matching tank or bikini top under the rash guard. Bonus is they can just slip on a skirt (swim or regular) and they’re able to walk to and from the pool area modestly.
(Oh, and some girls feel more comfortable with swim shorts over their bathing suits. We picked some of those for you, too.)
You can get the perfect swimsuit, a customized fit for your teen, at Flamingo Sport.

This post was very helpful. After trying & returning some from this post, we ended up with the Flamingo bathing suit. It fits well and modestly and seems well made. We are very happy with the purchase.

i found that my daughter was most comfortable in a bathing suit from amazon that was short sleeves and had a built in miniskirt with shorts underneath. it had a high neckline and zippered up the front. highly recommend, especially because its super cute and tons of color options.
