This lulav and esrog candy is easy to assemble and make the perfect Yom Tov treat or “Shabbos party.”
One of my daughters was born on motzei Yom Kippur. And while we sometimes break the fast with a birthday cake, most often we wait until Sukkot to celebrate (hey, it’s a busy time!)
She still thinks her birthday is on Sukkot because that’s when she always gets to give out the pekelach.
We know that most people don’t have Sukkos birthdays. But if your neighborhood has a Sukkah hop, these little packages are perfect for that too.

And even if you don’t have a need for the Sukkah pekelach, your kids will be excited to create (and enjoy) these cute candy treat.
For the Sukkah:
- 3-inch Brown Favor Boxes
- Leaf Ribbon
- Googly Eyes
For the Lulav/Esrog Candy:
- 2 x 10-inch Cello Bags (or shorter, depending on your sour belt length)
- Green Apple Sour Belts
- Swiss Petit Lemon Candy
- Dark Green and Light Green Jelly Belly (or any Jelly Beans in two shades of green)

To make the Sukkah, we simply used these 3-inch Brown Favor Boxes

and glued “schach” on top,

i.e. Leaf Ribbon.

Googly eyes is what makes them so cute. Now, you can stop here and you just have cute little Sukkahs to fill with whatever you like.
Or you can keep going…
To make the lulav and esrog candy treats, you’ll need long cello bags. I had these, which are 2 x 10-inches, but you can use shorter 2 x 8 bags too, it depends on the length of your sour belts.

Add the sour belt to the cello bag (you want the seal to be in the back).

Add 3 jelly beans of each color/flavor. We used Juicy Pear and Green Apple Jelly Bellys (oops, this one has too many jellybeans).
Add the lemon Swiss Petit candy. While many groceries sell the Swiss Petit candy only as an assortment, some do sell the fruit separately (In Lakewood, we found these both in Gourmet Glatt and Evergreen. Oh Nuts carries them as well).

That’s all there is too it. Seal and they’re ready!
Thanks for the great idea!! We have two motzei yom kippur bdays in our family and it’s so validating to hear from someone else that celebrates at a later date!!
