Not all containers come with that handy edge. This is what to do when they don’t.
Cornstarch and some containers of baking powder/soda can be difficult to scoop. And while some containers of these products come with a handy edge you can use to scrape off the excess in the spoon, many others don’t (corn starch never does).
What do you do when you open the container and don’t find that nice edge?
Deena Segal of @allworkandnopay had an idea.

You make your own. When lifting off the seal, don’t lift it all.
Leave yourself a bit, then cut across to leave a piece of the seal attached to your container.

Now you can scoop and scrape evenly with ease!
Love dina! Always helpful practical novel ideas.
had no idea ppl didn’t know this. go figure…
Genius!
My mom, a’h starting doing that with the baking powder covers decades ago, probably in the 1950s. She also sewed textured plastic on the bottom of footed pajama pants way before they started making them like that. The original hacker!
Not everything is a “hack”
Yeah, if you can’t figure out to do this, maybe you shouldn’t be allowed to be near a hot stove.
I’m more concerned about the people who leave nasty comments being near a computer than I am about someone who didn’t think of an idea being near a hot stove.
Listen, they are making $$ off of every view. People are entitled to share their opinion. (Just as you shared yours 😉 )
Lol u guys are being ridiculous. Also did YOU think of that on your own or you saw someone else do it? Cuz I sure didn’t!
Who knew baking powder can make a heated convo!
Thanks for that tip. Seems too obvious but I never thought of it.
Cute idea but I just flatten it with my finger, like I do with all other dry ingredients. I never found it too difficult. Why is this different than salt, sugar, cinnamon, etc?
OmG…. Totally not a hack oldest news ever…and FYI no need to cut, just fold back halfway… duhhh
Honestly, I’m appalled by people’s comments. Since when is it ok to just speak (write!) without thinking? Bashing BCP? Have you thought about the fact that these wonderful ladies give us so many fantastic hacks and recipes?
So you didn’t love this one. MOVE ON. Keep scrolling.
My Mama taught me “if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing”. I guess people forgot that.
Also, I’m sure these ladies read the comments on the blog. Is this your thank you? Tsk tsk.
Like someone else stated, not everything is a hack.
Quit using that word as some magical totem.
Works for baby formula too
