Our Favorite Items for Boys Going to Yeshiva

The zman just ended…but before you know it, they’ll be back off to yeshiva.

You know what a mad dash it is when your son comes home from camp and heads right back out to the dorm. There’s barely a day or two between the time when mesivta and bais medrash age boys come home from camp until the zman starts.

Plus, if you have a boy going out of town, there’s even less time, as travel needs to be taken into account.

That means, it’s best to plan ahead, and have his favorites waiting for him. (And if he is around, get those favorites in-house now because the stores are crowded).

For boys going out of town, this packing list is a great guide: What to Pack for a Boy Going to Yeshiva Out of Town.

And, of course, there are some items that are important to send along that don’t fit in a suitcase. Yes, he needs to take along some practical tips, perhaps the ones in this Yeshiva Bochur’s Guide to Laundry download. But more importantly, how do we send him off with love and a feeling of connection? You don’t want to miss this post on Sending Him Off to Yeshiva – with a Love That Lasts Beyond Goodbye.

Back to those suitcases! These are some of our recommended picks, both for clothing and odds and ends they’ll enjoy having in the dorm.

Top in the list are those ever-popular favorites, like the T.O. Flex Pants and the Platinum Stretch Shirt (a special item!). New are items our boys are really enjoying, like the Waffle Robe and dorm essentials like the Bronax Slides, the items that make his dorm bed more comfy, and our recommended shampoos, body wash, deodorant, mouthwash, and more.

BOYS AND MEN

The T.O. Performance Blazer

First up is the blazer–the article of clothing he wears more than any other item. The boys love this blazer from T.O. It’s made from T.O.’s popular performance fabric. It’s breathable and lightweight, yet still polished, and perfect for everyday.  Available in black and navy and two pocket styles.  See boys sizes here.

BOYS AND MEN

T.O. Flex Pants

The T.O. Flex Pants are still the number #1 favorite pants on the market. Even boys who have gone back to dress pants have returned to Flex, as they miss the comfort and durability (they’re machine washable and don’t get shiny).

Why are they so amazing? They look just like tailored dress pants, yet are as comfortable as anything, plus they come pre-hemmed, wrinkle-free, and ready to wear.

Flex Pants are available in black and navy.

BOYS AND MEN

Performance Pants

Looking for a more casual pant? Go with the performance. They have the same comfort, durability, stretchability, as the Flex in a more everyday look. And of course, they’re wrinkle-free and machine-washable.

BOYS AND MEN

The Platinum Shirt

The Platinum Stretch Shirt is that “favorite shirt!” It’s that secret in his closet that looks like his best dress shirt, but feels like his softest, most comfortable t-shirt. Even if you only upgrade one of his standard shirts to this, he will be thrilled.

BOYS AND MEN

T.O. Bathrobe

When our boys tried this robe, they said, “T.O. knows what we want.” Finally–a good quality robe that feels lux, at a nice price point–that’s also available in the colors they want. It is the essential item for dorm life (and of course it’s great and cozy at home too!). We like the lux feel of the Waffle, but of course classic Terry also works. Available in both mens and boys sizes.

MEN

V-Neck Sweater

You might think it’s awhile before he needs this, but you might be getting the call shortly after Succos of, “Ma, can you order a sweater for me?” This crewneck is a classic pick, and the Full-Zip is the one we’ve chosen for our own boys. It’s great quality at a great price point.

MEN

Bamboo Joggers

These bamboo joggers from Quince are a favorite for PJS.

MEN

Pajamas Shorts Set

This pajamas set is perfect for those who like to be cool when sleeping (most importantly, they don’t look like pajamas).

Athletic Slim Pants

If you want a lower cost pant that looks like joggers to wear as pajamas, these are a tried-and-true option.

Joggers

If he goes to camp, he is likely already well-stocked. In case he needs a fresh pair, see our roundup of top jogger picks.

ShayneCoat for Men

The raincoat that comes in very handy on Shabbos; hood goes over a hat. More sizes are available here.

The Best Mouthwash

Boys tend to wake up with barely enough time to get dressed and make it to Shacharis. They’re often in a rush and skip certain morning routines. Have pity on his chavrusa and pack this.

Egg Mattress Topper

This is a savior when the mattresses in the dorm aren’t so comfortable. It makes any mattress feel like a pillow-top.

Mattress Protector

It’s a good idea to cover the mattress with a mattress protector.

Degree Clinical Strength Deodorant

Antiperspirant

This deodorant is specifically recommended because it doesn’t stain white shirts (i.e. no yellow!)

3-in-1 Shampoo and Body Wash

For the ultimate in convenience. If he rather have separate shampoo and body wash, brands like Harry’s and Native are also popular. If luggage weight is an issue, best to get these items at the location.

Hat Brush

He won’t be able to borrow his father’s anymore.

Inverted Umbrella

This style of umbrella doesn’t fly upside down in the wind or drench you when it’s time to close it up.

Adidas Slides

These are a basic for shower wear.

Cushioned Thick Sole Pillow Slippers

This is the #1 slipper that will be on his feet as soon as his shoes come off. They are almost indestructible. Few things are more comfortable and durable.

Copper Infused Crew Socks

A sock game changer. Very comfortable and keeps your feet dry.

Bath Towels

Cotton Towel Set

It’s best to send him with a set that’s a specific color so they aren’t mixed up with his friends. If they have a robe, they won’t really need a bath sheet and this set will be ample.

Command Variety Pack

This variety pack will fill all his hanging needs.

Sonic Bomb

There’s usually a few Sonic Bombs per dorm room, but be considerate and use the vibrating option!

KosherClock™

This can be used every day of the week, but has special settings for Shabbos.

Memory Foam Sleep Mask

The dorm isn’t as quiet as his bedroom at home. This set makes it comfortable to sleep. The gel eyemask is super comfortable.

Travel Laundry Bag

You can hang this bag from the sturdy loop. That makes it much easier to add clothing, even when it’s full and heavy.

Five Star

Flex Refillable Notebook

Boys do not need much school supplies. They prefer notebooks that don’t take up much space (no binders please). A refillable notebook like this one is popular, complete with reinforced paper.
