Remember when we told you how you could go from budding fashionista to full-on fashion designer with ICA’s Fashion Institute? Read our previous post here! Well, while some of you jumped on board, some of you wanted more behind-the-scenes info.
How, exactly, do you go from someone who’s always been complimented on her great taste to becoming an actual designer, ready to create her own fashion line…in only 12 months?
So, we got the inside scoop. Here’s the behind-the-scenes info!
ICA’s Fashion Design course includes three tracks: creative design, technical design, and business management. In creative design, you’ll learn how to create a cohesive collection by designing mood boards based on inspiration, color, and aesthetics. Nope, it’s not gluing pictures from magazines: you’ll learn sketching, rendering and drawing via Illustrator and Photoshop. And all your learning is project-based, as you work towards a professional portfolio.
In technical design, you’ll get the tools to convert your ideas from concept to reality. This is where you’ll learn the anatomy of a garment: sewing patterns, fabrics, stitches, applications, and seam finishes. You’ll also learn how to create tech packs to communicate your ideas to a production team.
And finally, in business management, you’ll learn the insider tips and tricks to creating a successful brand. You’ll learn brand identity, positioning, and target marketing. Things like pricing, buying, wholesale vs. retail, production process and licensing information sound scary? You’ll learn them all in business management.
