As soon as there’s the slightest chill in the air, some boys and men like to have a sweater to throw on over their shirt (that classroom, beis medrash, or office might also be chilly!). For many, all they want is something basic, neutral, neat and cozy. So what are the options?

While crewnecks and v-necks are the basic, those who don’t like a pullover like instead to make a full-zip or a cardigan their go-to sweater (and nope, cardigans aren’t only for grandpa. They’re actually cool). The half-zip (or half-button) neck is another nice style that looks neat over any type of shirt. For boys and men who wear any type of top, these are nice options regardless. And for those who wear white button downs daily, the sweater is an opportunity to pick something that’s uniquely theirs. 

One pro of buying sweaters for the male population? Unlike women who like lots of top options, since for a boy this is mostly “outerwear,” he only needs a couple to get him through the fall and winter. 

Note: While we listed both chunky knits and thinner wool sweaters, which one you choose is a matter of preference–some boys like cozy cottons, while others prefer a thinner sweater because it’s more comfortable/less restrictive, especially when they may be wearing a blazer over.
