We picked our favorite products for all kinds of travel.
Whether it’s a short weekend visiting your parents’ or a week-long vacation, chances are you’ll need to charge a device or two or six while you’re away.
If you travel more than once or twice a year, our first piece of advice is not to use the chargers you use on a regular basis. It’s always best to have an organized travel charger setup so you’re not scrambling to pack your wires at the last minute. Or forgetting your chargers because you left them to be packed last.
- If you only travel within the US, we recommend a basic multi-port USB charger plug that can fit 2-4 USB cables at once.
Depending on your devices, you might want one that includes a USB-C port or two. - If you travel internationally, these USB charger plugs include interchangeable backs that work in several different countries (including Israel and England).
- Once you’ve covered the plug side, you’ll also need charger cables. Most of us have an extra phone charger cable hanging around the house, so pick one to be your dedicated travel one. I like to pack a long one because you don’t know where you’ll have an outlet at your destination.
- If you don’t have a spare smartwatch charger, buy one and leave it in your travel kit. Otherwise, you WILL forget it at home.
- If you will be traveling with a computer for work, you might want to take along a power strip. Many hotels have one outlet at the desk. How do you choose which device to charge? An inexpensive power strip let’s you plug in all your devices and charger plugs at once.
- Another item to consider if you travel internationally with a MacBook is the Apple world power adapter. You replace the American plug in your computer power brick with the one you need for your location. You then don’t have to be concerned about voltage differences.
- One more product that’s great if you’ll be out and about for a long time is this iWalk battery pack that plugs directly into your phone with no disruption in its use. While we love the flexibility of the iWalk Scorpion power pack, this battery pack is truly the most convenient option if you’ll be out and don’t want to be holding your phone and power pack at the same time.
Now that you’ve chosen your charging accessories based on your travel needs, make sure they’re packed together in a kit that’s ready to go when you are. I like these inexpensive mesh pouches but chances are you already have something in the house that you can use. Just make sure it’s all in one container and you’ll be ready for wherever the road takes you.
Thanks so much! Ordered one of the chargers…
