There’s so many types of white shirts…what are the subtle differences? And which do we recommend?
You’ve got him his pants, but now he needs his shirts. And like most moms, you’re only considering non-irons shirts as they save loads and loads of work.
Wash. Hang. Done. Note: Non-Iron shirts never go in the drier. Hang when wet for best results.
Non-iron shirts are treated to be able to get their stiffer, smoother quality. But even within non-iron, there are different fits and fabrics. We turned to His Place to explain the differences in the shirts they offer (and since we have a lot of boys between us, we can vouch that they’re really great shirts).
- For boys, most shirts come in slim, classic, and husky in sizes 4 through 20.
- Some of these are also available for men (for other men’s shirts, click here). For another post on our recommendations for men’s shirts, see this post.
Edited to add: TO does not take returns from shirts that are open.
1. The Green Label Shirt. Available in mens and boys sizes. This is the basic non-iron shirt in 100% cotton at the best price point at $34. Since we first featured these shirts, the fabric has been updated and upgraded! Besides for the quality getting an upgrade, the shirt is also now tapered which has greatly improved the fit.
Fabric: These shirts feature a twill fabric.
Fit: The Green Label is available in three fits: A slim fit, which in this shirt is a very regular fit that suits a wide range of boys. Classic and Husky styles are also available.
2. The Blue Label Shirt. These shirts, which are priced slightly higher at $35, have taping in the seams, so there’s no puckering and a nicer finish.
Fabric: The Blue Labels feature a dressy pinpoint fabric.
Fit: These shirts run more generously than any of the others. The classic fit runs very generously, and the husky is larger than the other Green and Purple Label shirts. The slim is a true slim (just a little less slim than the green and purple).
Men: The Blue Label shirts are also available in Men’s sizes here.
3. The Purple Label. This is T.O.’s best shirt with all the bells and whistles, priced at $39. It features the nicest fabric, it’s a vibrant white that doesn’t turn yellow, and the non-iron capability and tapering is of the highest grade. It’s a great value.
Fabric: These shirts are made with a top quality twill fabric.
Fit: These feature a slimmer fit. Even the classic and husky will have a neat look.
Men: The Purple Label shirts are also available in Men’s sizes here.
4. The Too Stretch Shirt. This is a new favorite! It’s a cotton knit that feels super comfortable, but has a tailored fit that also looks neat. It’s a luxurious pick at $50. It’s practical as it washes well too.
Fabric and Fit: These shirts are not non-iron; the comfort and softness of the fabric is prioritized over the non-iron factor. These shirts feature a slim fit, similar to the Purple Label. There’s also short sleeve available from sizes 2 and up. Great for younger kids for the summer months for Shabbos!
5. The Gold Label. Comes in mens and boys sizes. This (pricier at $69) shirt is made from a premium fabric. It’s a “super stretch” shirt that looks like a shirt, but feels like a t-shirt! Perfect for those days that he needs to be active but still look dressed. This is also a favorite for men.
Fabric: It’s made from a knit stretch in cotton. It’s not non-iron. Dry cleaning is recommended (although we’ve washed these in the machine and hung dry with no problem).
I was looking for a white weekday shirt that’s not iron (but is more an oxford weekday style / material) for my Bar Mitzvah boy who has to wear them to school. Are these shirts in the article all dressy shabbos? Do you have an idea of a non iron weekday white shirt?
Thanks
Ai stone makes a pinpoint oxford non iron shirt which looks great on the boys.
I am also looking for white everyday shirts. Something more breathable then an Oxford so they can be comfortable during recess.
What about ai stone shirts, how do they compare to these? My kids have them and we love them. Also ships out of town from a website,..
AI Stone has been out of many sizes, so was looking for another option.
i love the alviso and they are pretty cheap on shirtstop usually $25 range
Any insights on AI Stone vs Alviso vs TO?
Not naming any brands but anyone out there finds that these non iron shirts attract stains? Or my boys so rough on their stuff?
Do you have a link for non iron colored/patterned shirts for 6th graders who need to wear collar button down to yeshiva but don’t need to wear white shirts?
shirt sleeve makes great non iron shirt too. i buy the silver label shirt for around 30 dollars. great non iron. plus if your bar mitzva boy wants to pull them down over his teffilin they are not too narrow for that. They also make a husky size that fits fuller people too.

Wait, how come the article is about white shirts but only mention TO. And why is $34 cheap for boys?
