Cutting fruit might be simple, but it’s just those simple techniques that stick with us the longest.
Back when we showed you this cutting board hack, a couple of you asked for instructions on cutting the mango shown in the photos. I didn’t think at the time that I was cutting it in any particularly special way, but since you asked…we listened. ( And while we were at it, we cut a watermelon the easiest way we know how to as well).
First, hold your mango vertically.
Slice off the two longer sides on either side of the pit. (If you get it wrong and hit the pit, just pull your knife out and try again. But if you always cut along the longest side, you should be fine).
To slice off the flesh on the sides, slice on an angle to get the most possible fruit off.
Slice the two large sides in half.
Then, slice off the peels from all pieces.
Thinly slice your fruit and you’re done.
While most of us know how to cut a watermelon, we’ve had moments in our lives when we were newlyweds and had sister-in-laws laugh at us while trying ineptly to cut that monstrous melon. I remember my own moment very clearly.
So, this one’s for you.
First, you’ll cut your watermelon into quarters.
Then, simply slice the watermelon like a tic-tac-toe board (but with much more lines). Cut sliced about 1-inch apart in one direction (depending on how large you want your chunks to be). Then, slice in the other direction.
Then, cut between the fruit and the rind.
And your cubes are ready to fall perfectly into your bowl, evenly and effortlessly!
