Something To Try If You’re Having Trouble Sleeping

So many of us are having trouble falling asleep – and staying asleep – during these anxious days.

Our bodies and minds are tired. We’re in a heightened state of tension all day – and all night – long. But sleep has become difficult for many of us. Even when we fall asleep, we might find ourselves jolting awake in the middle of the night.

In this post about tools to help you fall asleep, we mentioned the use of a weighted blanket. And for me, this has become a lifesaver right now.

While I do often struggle with insomnia, I’m not generally an anxious person. My mind sometimes simply just can’t relax enough to sleep. On those nights, I’ve been using a weighted blanket for a while now, and it really helps me fall asleep. Staying asleep is not really a problem.

But these days, sleep comes and goes. And the only way I can get any reasonable hours of sleep is with my weighted blanket. I don’t know the science of it, but I can literally feel it relaxing my body as soon as I get under that cover. And I felt like I had to share this in case it could help some of you.

I can’t personally vouch for any specific blankets other than the one I have. It’s made by Gravity Blankets and available on Amazon. What makes this one particularly good is the zipper system that keeps the weighted liner inside the cover. Most weighted blankets have buttons or ties all along the inside that need to be fastened and it can be a very tedious job. This one has a zipper that connects the two, making it so much easier to wash. This blanket from Target is the one Shaindy uses and loves. If you’ve had a good experience with a different one, please share a link in the comments.

fyi, I’ve found online a site that rates weighted blankets, and lists the YnM Cooling Weighted blanket as an inexpensive dupe for the much more expensive Gravity Blanket. You can find it on Amazon.
Note: When buying a weighted blanket, make sure to get the right blanket weight -it depends on the weight of the person using it; from what I’ve seen I think it should be 10% of the person’s weight, but verify before buying.
