3 Books About Marriage Every Wife Should Read

Because we can always do it better

You know what they say: Every marriage—even a great one—needs work. It’s totally true. So whether you are going through a rough patch or just looking to make your great marriage even greater add these books to your must-read list.

Gary Chapman

The Five Love Languages

Not everyone speaks the same lingo when it comes to expressing and experiencing love. Learn what really talks to your hubby—and you, so that you can both really get the message across to each other. Bonus points: You can also use the five love languages to better understand your kids.

Laura Doyle

The Surrendered Wife

Learn how Laura made her marriage better when she—get this—stopped telling her hubby what to do. Surrendering control is the best way to boost intimacy, Laura explains. Her book can show you exactly how to achieve that goal. (Her latest book The Empowered Wife is an updated version of The Surrendered Wife.)

Rebbetzin Esther Jungreis a"h

The Committed Marriage

Last, but certainly not least, the best marriage book I’ve ever read. While sadly Rebbetzin Jungreis is no longer with us, read her book to learn the Torah view of what makes a marriage great. Infused with the Rebbetzin’s signature warmth and compassion, her anecdotes and wisdom will inspire you to “give and give,” the true prerequisite for love.

Between Carpools

Between Carpools is a collaboration between five talented friends who like to get a lot of stuff done “between carpools.” Since 2016, we’ve been sharing home and organizing tips, parenting insights, activities, how-to’s and DIYs, and of course, entertaining ideas, recipes, and inspiring reads both on the site and app.

Laura Doyle wrote a more recent book where she rethinks some of her earlier premises. It’s called First Kill All the Marriage Counselors. Highly Recommended!

“Saving your marriage before it starts” by Les and Leslie Parrott is a terrific book on marriage. Laura Doyle’s books are a bit problematic from a Jewish standpoint especially when the goal in centered on the woman’s needs opposed to focusing on a marriage unit and your spouse’s need first…

the techniques in laura Doyle’s books, is still basically the same for a jewish marriage… just have to switch the goal- the reason behind everything- goal is to make him melech… then we will be malka- but goal is not to make us the malka… but ive found its the same process to get there, just changing the mindset…

The goal is to create shalom bayis. How we achieve that goal is by making him the melech.

You haven’t read the book, obviously. I have and it is completely in line with Torah and Hashkafah on marriage,

Two halves of a whole by Rebbetzin Tehilla Abrahmov is a must read. Really gets to the core of what a healthy Jewish marriage is supposed to look like and how to achieve that. Practical yet enjoyable book.
