Send the Perfect Classy Gift to Your Neighbor’s Kiddush
- Bake your favorite yellow cake recipe, then let cool. Using a 2”-circle cookie cutter or a glass that magically fits these parameters, cut the cake into perfect circles.
- Throw out all of the circles that crumble, have messy edges, or stick to the cookie cutter. Bake another cake. Try again.
- Boil your favorite berries and fruit in a simple syrup. Scrape out of pot, leaving the burnt sugar behind.
- Whip cream, then transfer into piping bag with star tip. Whip more cream when your piping bag gets a hole in it, and cream shoots out the wrong end.
- Assemble mini-trifles in the pretty cups you purchased for this purpose. Wipe off sides when the cake crumbles and whip smears and fruit smudges.
- Check to see how many trifles are pretty enough to send your neighbor. Google local bakeries to see how many trifles come in their gift options. Repeat steps 1-6 as necessary until you have a minimum of 8 trifles.
- An hour before Shabbos, give up hope and send a saran-wrapped-whatever-was-left-at-the-bakery, with a hand-scrawled note and your last vestiges of pride.

Leftover Gefilte Fish Hack
Carefully store in clean Tupperware or pan, sealing tightly. Wrap in foil and/or Saran wrap. Place in back of fridge—not on door. On Thursday, when you start Shabbos prep, remove leftovers from fridge and toss.
