This isn’t a new hack, but when reader Etty Lax let us know that she tried it with great results, we realized it would come in very handy right about now!
It’s great for those who want a cute baking activity for the kids without much mess.
It’s also great for those who are away without a fully stocked pantry.
And it’s just fun when you want a quick and easy treat.
The concept is simple: turn any cake mix into a cookie mix by eliminating the water, using one less egg, and more oil.
“I have only tried it with Duncan Hines yellow cake mix and Duncan Hines Fruity Pebble cake mix,” Etty shared, “The results were AMAZING! The cookies were delicious and soft and creamy.”
We tested it out using the Yellow Cake Mix and a Chocolate Cake Mix.
Simply add 2 eggs and ½ cup of oil.
The batter does need to be refrigerated for 30 minutes before rolling into balls.
They spread so nicely and evenly.
Cake Mix Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup oil
- 1 package Duncan Hines Yellow Cake Mix
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine eggs, oil, and cake mix. Mix well. Refrigerate batter for 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll batter into balls and flatten slightly with the palms of your hand. Add sprinkles or confetti if desired (some mixes come with it). Bake for 8-9 minutes. Let cool for 3 minutes. Enjoy!

Tamara says
We do this with spice cake mix, pareve butterscotch chips, and crystallized ginger chopped up small. Also chocolate cake mix with chocolate chips.
