Not running out to a party tonight? Have fun creating Chanukah Sugar Cookies.
Make one big batch of sugar cookies dough. Get out the sprinkles or create a Cookie Coloring Station as shown here.

Roll them all out tonight, or freeze some of the dough for another night.

You can also easily halve this recipe.

There’s also no need to refrigerate this dough, so your kids can be busy rolling cookie dough in minutes!

Tip: This recipe makes a lot of cookies, but there’s no need to bake them all at once.
Chanukah Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 cups (4 sticks) margarine, at room temperature
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 tbsp vanilla sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 6½ cups flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
Instructions
- In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream margarine and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs, lemon juice, flour, and baking powder, and mix for 3-5 minutes, until the flour is fully incorporated.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll dough out onto a floured surface and cut into desired shapes. Place cookies on prepared baking sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes (remove from oven before the edges start to brown). Let cool, then remove cookies from baking sheet.

I’ve had several sugar cookie recipes over the years but this is the best one. The dough was great, not sticky, and easy to work with, it didn’t need to be refrigerated and it kept its shape well in the oven. The lines not quite as sharp as before they went into the oven, but close. And tasted great too. Thanks!
Hi can I do this recipe in a food processor?
Can this dough be frozen?
Can I substitute margarine with oil?
This recipe wont be the same made with oil.
I just made this recipe but only had 2 sticks margarine, so I used that plus one cup oil, and dough came out great!
(also, I mixed it by hand)
Where the Shield and menorah cookie cutters from?
Can I half the recipe?
Technically yes, you just need to split an egg.
Best dough to work with. And I took ur advice of putting a parchment paper on top of dough to roll w pin. So much easier. The dough didn’t stick to the pin.
I made this dough and my daughter made shapes with my mother . It was bonding time between grandmother and granddaughter.
It was a nachas seeing them bond.
So good!! the best sugar cookie recipe I ever made! rolled out so well
Can this dough be used to make hanataschen or will it crack when folded??
This cookie recipe is super yummy but for me it was a bit too soft for cutters. I made one tray of shapes for my kids to decorate and the rest I made into little round cookies and dipped them in several types of sprinkles, cinnamon sugar, and chocolate chips. I also halved the recipe and it still made a ton of cookies. I’ll use it again for the little round cookies!
We use this recipe without oil, makes a great easy dough and comes out perfect every time.
Use mini chocolate lentils or colored sugar to decorate
