How to Clean Quartz Countertops

We’re not stone professionals, but we can tell you how we keep our quartz counters clean and shining.

Are you one of the many readers who has reached out to us asking for the best way to clean quartz countertops? We’ve got you covered!

Disclaimer – we are not stone pros. We just know what’s been working for us for years of using white quartz countertops.

First – quartz countertops are very hardy.

Don’t be too afraid of them, but do take care of them properly. Don’t put hot pots or cut directly on them. Wipe up spills that are likely to stain right away. Wine and grape juice, turmeric, pomegranates, coffee and tea – try to get to these right away. But if you don’t and you see a stain, don’t panic. After a few days of regular cleaning, they’ll generally go away.

So how do you keep them looking clean and bright?

Basic cleanup can be done with a sponge and some water. A sponge with some dish soap will clean up most messes, but if things are particularly sticky or greasy, you can use a basic all purpose spray like 409 or Fantastik.

I usually just use paper towels to wipe that up, but they can leave streaks behind. A microfiber cloth does the job better, but realistically a paper towel is more practical for me.

When I do want a great shiny clean look (usually before and after Shabbos and at some point in the middle of the week), after cleaning the counters, I like to spray them with some Weiman Quartz Spray and wipe that up with a microfiber cloth using circular motions. That will leave no streaks and leave the counters gleaming.

Gray marks on Quartz countertop edge - around a kitchen sink.

Sometimes you’ll notice some gray marks on the counters – particularly around the sink. This happens when metal rubs up against the stone and leaves a mark.

For that you’ll need something mildly abrasive like The Pink Stuff.

The Pink Stuff Cleaning Paste, and just a little bit on a wet paper towel and/on Quartz counter.

Use just a little bit on a wet paper towel or rag and gently buff out the marks. Wash away the residue after the stain disappears.

And that’s pretty much all you need to know!

SoftScrub with bleach works like magic!! Even on stains that have been sitting a while.
With just a little bit on a paper towel, it’ll clean the stains perfectly!

Tysm! What to do about yellow stains on my white quartz? seems to be from water as it’s mostly near my sink area

Yes I get those too. I think it’s maybe rust related also? My counter installers recommended bar keepers friend. It’s great–it’s a micro abrasive so it actually goes deeper. Just be careful, don’t use too often, and follow instructions about wiping it away right away.

Any suggestions for rust stains? I get them from leaving a peeler on the counter
