We had a casual discussion on our favorite teas amongst ourselves and decided to share them all with you.
If you love tea, there’s almost nothing as comforting during the wintertime. Coffee most often loses its allure past the morning time, but tea is welcome anytime. Enjoy it in the evening when winding down, take a to-go cup to the bus stop, or along with you on a car ride.
Ever since Esti was served this Green Tea with Lemongrass and Verbena on a flight home from Israel, it’s been her favorite. She used to have people bring home boxes for her from Israel, but now it’s available on Amazon.
Once we were on the tea discussion, Shaindy shared that she buys this jar of tea at Costco (Note: It’s much cheaper at Costco but is not available at Costco.com). It’s a HUGE jar (like the size of a fish tank). Esti and Renee both bought it afterwards and all got hooked too. They enjoy it all week, but it’s especially great on Shabbos because it’s not a problem with bishul. Esti keeps a small jar in the kitchen fridge and stores the rest in another fridge so it doesn’t take up valuable fridge real estate.
Renee likes to finish her day with a cup of Chai Tea and almond milk. This Tazo Chai is her go-to. Victoria also loves chai with hot soy or oat milk but loves the Wissotzky Salted Caramel Chai (tastes like dessert!).
Lately, Victoria is hooked on these fruity teas that available in kosher grocery stores now. She loves some flavors and not others, so you really have to experiment and try a few to find your favorite (her picks: Cider Fruit, Citrus Lemonade, Mango Carnival, Cheeky Cherry, Summer Soiree, and more.)
If you don’t think you like tea, but want something you might enjoy, the Hot Apple Cider packets recommended in this post might do the trick!
(And no, Leah does not have any tea picks.) Which teas do you love?
UPDATE with a new favorite: After this post went up, we got lots of feedback recommending the Hot Cinnamon Spice tea (available with caffeine or without) from Harney and Sons. We tried it and fell in love! It’s the absolute perfect treat for a cold day. Drink it as is, or sweeten it a bit and it’ll taste like Red Hots candy!
Victoria is the best-selling author of nine kosher cookbooks and a popular columnist for Ami Magazine. She always has the words for bringing everything that’s in our hearts onto the page.
Wissotzky mango passion fruit and celestial seasonings cinnamon apple spice are our faves by far. We don’t add sugar and even my kids drink nightly. They’re herbal so no caffeine
If it was just plain tea leaves, no, but most teas have other flavorings or ingredients and they absolutely do need a hechsher. All of the teas featured here do have a hechsher.
I love Wissotsky peach tea, and Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea. Traditional Medicinals Mother’s Milk tea is my go-to when pumping, increases my milk by 2 oz per pumping session!
Celestial seasoning true blueberry flavor is one if our favorites! I prefer drinking fruity teas over sharp or spicy
flavors. I prepare it before Shabbos for a cozy Friday night treat.
