These are the Vitamins Doctors Recommend to Boost Your Immunity

Yes, vitamins can help prevent you from getting sick!

I’m totally not a health nut and I might even be the first one to think, “I’m fine the way I am, leave me alone!” It’s my husband, though, that places the vitamins in my hands and says “take this!” He’s been speaking to doctors on the hishtadlut one can take to best arm themselves to stay healthy during the past COVID seasons and the upcoming cold and flu seasons.

The vitamins that help with immunity include Quercetin, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Zinc. Of course, always first check with your own health professional to ask which of these vitamins and the amount that they recommend for you. This post is not meant to tell you what to take, but rather, to let us all know that there are preventative measures available so that we know what questions to ask our own doctors.

For Women

Chewable Prenatals

I personally hate having to swallow any pills or vitamins, so I take this chewable prenatal all year (not only when expecting). I would never be able to swallow multiple things per day! For women, prenatals can also act as an easy multivitamin. They really include everything you need. Two chewables and I’m covered.

Quercetin

Over the last few months, doctors have been recommending anywhere from 500 mg – 1,000 mg of Quercetin and 500 mg – 1,000 mg a day of vitamins C as a preventative measure. This one includes 500 mg of Quercetin along with 500 mg of Vitamin C.

Vitamin C

If you want Vitamin C on it’s own (or more than the Quercetain supplies), this one comes in both 500mg and 1000mg tablets.

Vitamin D

Jews are commonly deficient in Vitamin D. This one contains the recommended amount of 2,000 IU.

Zinc

Zinc has gotten a lot of attention over the past few months, with doctors recommending either 25mg or 50mg as a preventative measure. Ask your doctor if you should be taking Zinc.

What do you recommend as Vitamin C for kids? One that they will actually swallow or chew…

I’m not familiar with children’s vitamins, however, if any readers have any recommendations of those their kids like, they are welcome to advise below !

Thanks for the great tips as always.
A heads up that vitamin D must be taken with food or it is completely excreted.

I take vitamin d at night, and my levels always come out optimal on blood tests (before I started taking vitamin d, it came out lower). So it’s clearly not getting totally excreted.

Why are Jews commonly low on Vit D?

Natural dietary sources of Vitamin D are limited (fatty fish & their oils). Vitamin D can be synthesized by our skin in the presence of sunlight. Since many Jews dress modestly, we are less exposed to sunlight and thus synthesize less Vitamin D. Additionally, cows milk has been fortified with Vitamin D since the 1930s, but many Jews of Ashkenazic descent are lactose intolerant, preventing them from ingesting the Vitamin D in that manner as well. Hope this helps!

Maxi health now made a combo of all these called Vac-c-max. It has Zinc, B, C, Quercitin – all in one.

Quercetin-max by maxi health seems to have replaced the vax-c-max.
