It’s so easy to forget when the pan is hot. This is a great way to remind yourself.
There are many recipes that begin by searing over a flame and continue with transferring the pan to the oven to finish cooking. This is a great cooking method that we’ve used in recipes like this one here.
Anyway, the part that is not so fun is when you remove the pan from the oven and a few minutes later, you forget that that handle is actually scalding hot. Ouch!! It’s really dangerous.
So, this is my little tip: slide an oven mitt over the handle. That will remind you to proceed with caution and yes, serve you as well, in the perfect way if you have to move said pan.
Speaking of searing pans, this is my current favorite. It does well for searing and can withstand high temperatures in the oven as well.

Isn’t it a fire hazard to put an oven mitt right near a flame?

Of course it is! this flame here is not on. This tip works in those instances where the entire skillet is places inside the oven therefore becoming really hot and it could take a long time for it to cool down. Many people forget and touch the handle in the interim.

How do you clean the grill pan? I scratched off the non stick coating of my grill pan
Renee Muller says
Oh that is upsetting! the best way, I find, is to place a bit of soapy water in the pan and then bring to a boil. The heat will do most of the work.
I will, when possible, fill the pan with water immediately after I finished using it.
