Our Favorite Outdoor Toys for Summer

We love anything and everything made by Step2. The designs are intuitive, the quality is top, and they’re mostly easy to assemble.

This will be an item you use every single day for those walks around the block with your baby or toddler. Make sure to label or use a Sharpie to  add your name and phone number.

The Whisper Ride version is a quieter and smoother choice and is a significant upgrade – very recommended. 

Perfect for toddlers.

The Step2 Roller Coaster will be your best toy purchase ever. Thought you might intend it for your 2-year-old, the bigger kids always try to sneak a ride on it. It accommodates up to 50 pounds, so there’s a nice range of ages that can use it. And which little girl wouldn’t love this unicorn edition?!

As your kids get older, add to the coaster with this “Further and Faster” track which makes the start point higher.

There is also a “more extreme” version for older kids up to 75 pounds, that’s very popular and fun! Note that it is  significantly more costly.

Of course, every household needs a few Razor scooters for the bigger kids who go zooming about. Or go for the Razor A5 with their 8″ wheels for speedier travel (about 9 years+).

The Skidee Scooter is great for little kids who aren’t strong enough to push pedals but still want to move on their own, and it’ll grow with them. Note that this lights up so it is not good for Shabbos use.

If you have dirt paths nearby, or very bumpy sidewalks, these Razor scooters with dirt tires will be lots of fun for older kids. Just make sure they are wearing helmets!

And of course, the Micro Kickboard Mini is the most recommended one out there for children ages 2-5. It’s pricey, but after you see how confident your little one is on it, how safe and stable they are, and how smoothly they zip around, you’ll be confident that it was a wise purchase.  You may be able to find copies of this scooter locally for less (they may be similar but not precisely the same).

Once they outgrow the Micro Mini (pass it down), the Micro Kickboard Maxi scooter is for ages 5-12 with an adjustable handlebar.

The Razor RipRider is a really cool option, especially for cul-de-sac streets.

Adjustable, so they’ll grow with your child, can be shared, and will last for years and years to come.

Kids seem to gravitate towards trampolines. They sit for hours and enjoy the outdoors. But lots of you are concerned about trampolines because of safety issues. Here’s a solution for the little ones. It’s low to the ground, easy to move out of the way, and it’s still cozy enough to be a hangout. Bonus: You won’t need to hire someone to assemble it.

Got boys? This Little Tikes basketball hoop can be used indoors or outdoors and is almost a “must”.

Unlike with a traditional sandbox, since the kids don’t sit in the sand here, they don’t get full of it and stray animals don’t get in either.

You can order play sand for pickup at your local Lowes or Home Depot.

If your littlest ones are too small for the big swings, this is compact enough for use indoors in the winter and outdoors in the summer. It works for the littlest climbers, even pre-walkers ages 1-4.

Go with this fun sprinkler for toddlers, though we do like standard gardening sprinklers best for older kids who enjoy bigger and stronger water jets.

How about some giant bubble fun?

Sidewalk chalk art has become very popular. Get some blue tape and create stencils for a “stained glass” driveway or sidewalk.

For active kids, a proper soccer goal and ball is a great setup for burning off some energy with a brother or even alone.
