Don’t let summer go by without making the season a meaningful one for you.
Often, when summer starts we have big dreams. We have dreams of what we’re going to accomplish or how we’re going to enjoy the season.
And, too often, summer just goes by. We keep running like we do all year, without taking the time to catch our breath and take advantage of the change of schedule, change of pace…and the good weather!
It’s all well and good to say “I’m going to take things one day at a time.” The only problem is, that when we do, we sort of just take care of all the things that are imminent, without taking this time to map out our larger goals.
So, this summer we’re going to do it together.
Because, sometimes, growth needs a plan.
Over the next five weeks, we’re going to focus on different ways we can make this a Summer of Growth. We’ll list some ideas, but we definitely want you to chime in too!
Not every week will speak to you. We all have different interests and capabilities. But here’s what you can expect in the weeks ahead (and if you want to jump ahead and start with a goal that falls into a theme of a later week, go ahead!!).
The BCP Summer of Growth launches tomorrow!
Below is an overview of the theme for each week. We will be posting lots of ideas at the start of each week to get you started.

Week One: Rest and Reset
Do you use summer to recharge your batteries for the year ahead? Or do you run into the new year just as breathless as when you finished it?
Week Two: Embrace the Season
Has summer so far been just the same ol’? Even if we don’t change our location, there’s things we can do to feel and appreciate the change of season.
Week Three: Relationship and You
Can we grow by improving how we relate with those around us?
Week Four: Get Moving and Get Outside, Stay Healthy
Can we make it a goal to come out of summer as a healthier version of ourselves?
Week Five: Spiritual Boost
And finally, and most importantly–we want to use summer to grow spiritually. There’s lots of time to reflect, learn, and think about our ruchnius goals. This will also make us feel recharged and good about the time we spend over the summer. We don’t need to wait for Elul!

Nice ideas but shouldn’t it be the other way around? Start with spiritual growth and health so they get the most time and end with rest and recharge before school and the Yom tov pressure begin.

At first I thought you were right. Then I looked at the tips and ideas for week 1. And I realized… I think we as women are so busy, we need to first stop and breathe, before we can jump into spiritual growth. It will iy”h be that much more meaningful and helpful if we are calmer and more ready to be open to real growth.

On this note, yesterday I spoke to one high school mechaneches who is busy, busy, busy all year teaching in two high schools.
In the summertime, in the month of July, she walks everyday for an hour in the country. Sure, it’s physical, mental, we need time to breathe and move and think. But this is also ruchnius! This recharges her.
Summer, with it’s routine that’s a little different, is the time we hope to do this. So, yes, the goals that are directly ruchnius in nature, those will come, but like you said, we first need to find the moments to nurture the nurterer in us who takes care of everyone else all year long. When we can breathe, we open ourselves up to all the possibilities, with energy to take on the more significant things :).

We simply figured that spiritual week would work well for the 9 days. However feel free to swap the weeks as you it works for you.
