Wouldn’t you like to just cover your dip bowls on Friday night and then use them again without having to wash and refill them?
On a recent chat amongst us here at Between Carpools, Victoria mentioned how she’d love dip bowls that have lids instead of washing them out after the seuda on Friday night and refilling them in the morning. We all agreed that it would make a lot of sense.
(Covering them with a bit of foil is not a good solution – you can’t stack them and the lack of an airtight seal makes the dips get crusty and unappealing. We want our dips to stay fresh and perfect!)
We did some searching and couldn’t find the type of pretty bowls we’re used to using on our Shabbos tables available with lids. We did find some simple ones that could work like these glass ones (one of us has these, they work great and keep dips fresh), but most of us really prefer to use our nicer Shabbos bowls.
These are universal lids that can work with any bowl. They’re silicone, stretchy, and easy to clean. And they’re available in sizes that work for most little bowls.
I suggest measuring the bowls you have or want to buy across the top and making sure to order the correct size lid. The lid needs to be slightly smaller than the measurement of the bowl so it stretches tightly and forms a seal. But it can’t be too small, either.
These ramekins are 3.8” across. These 3.74” lids will work for a good seal. These white and gold bowls in the medium size are also 3.75 inches and work with the same lids. The smaller size of these bowls at 3.25” work with these lids that are 2.6 inches.
Some more dip bowls we love:
Brilliant! We use the glass ones but the other ones look so much prettier. Also quick tip, we buy the small silver disposable spoons and throw them out after each meal. They look pretty as well and they’re so much more convenient!
I like the spoons idea!
You guys are amazing
My dip bowls are oval shape. Would these work?
I think a slight oval would work but not a very long one.
I would love more ideas of pretty dip bowls but ones that match silver rimmed china instead of gold and also ones that are dishwasher safe. I find many dip bowls and serving pieces (i.e. lucite) do not hand wash nicely due to the mayonnaise based dips/dressings. Thanks for a great post!
Genius!
Thanks this looks brilliant!
Do you think it will form a good seal on the bowls with beaded rims?
I think it probably would because the silicone part comes down the side a bit, too. You’d want a tighter fit to make sure so if it’s just the exact same size, it might not work.
Amazing!! Ty!!
Great post! I have these bowls/covers, if anyone is looking for another option…

I’d like to share another method that works great for me (and others who saw me do it and told me they started to do it too). Stock up on sandwich bags (not ziploc) and the larger size. Friday night after the meal cover the dips/salads with the plastic touching the food and tucking it down a bit on the sides to seal it from air(not tucking over the bowl but in the bowl with the food). This literally takes 3 seconds per bowl, I wish I can show how easy it is and how great it works at keeping the food fresh for this one night . Shabbat day peel it off and throw it out! no need to wash anything! if there’s leftover dips, I have plastic disposable salad dressing containers and store the extras in those so its easy to serve during the week and easy to toss- again no dishes!
For the gold rimmed porcelain which cover does it need
They should work with the 2.6″ lids. Size Small white and gold bowls at 3.25” work with them.
brilliant!!!! i recently stocked up on the pyrex to solve this issue for dips and salads friday nite! this is way better!
These all look great but honestly those dip holders that came out a few years ago are genius. The whole dip container goes in. The
Lid stays in the fridge and after the meal the dip gets covered. Nothing to wash ever. I think they should keep making them in new styles. I love mine. I buy cool sets of spoons at tj maxx.
On the subject- we use these for salads so you don’t have to keep washing the serving bowls every Friday night. And the white color goes with everything!!
