Get the family excited and bring the Chanukah anticipation to your home from now with this exciting and easy prep breakfast (or breakfast-for-dinner).
As soon as Rosh Chodesh Kislev comes, we love to start off the Chanukah excitement. Everyone loves those signs that “Chanukah is coming.” And it’s the little things you do from Rosh Chodesh that set the Kislev mood and simply bring the joy in early–who wouldn’t want that?
One classic thing that mothers do on Rosh Chodesh is bake sugar cookies with their kids. (As an aside, we’ve tested oil-based and coconut-oil based sugar cookies, and have come to the conclusion that when it comes to classic sugar cookies, margarine simply gives the best results). Even if you don’t have time to bake this Rosh Chodesh (or you simply want a neater activity), you can print out these Chanukah Coloring Pages and let the kids start coloring when they get home. This Chanukah Gel Pen Coloring Sheet is great for the kids that are a little older. Finally, come Rosh Chodesh Kislev, you might want to get yourself into that joyful mood by learning about this segulah of not complaining during the month of Kislev. That can certainly set the tone in the house!
Or, you can simply enjoy this Chanukah Gelt Hot Cocoa.
This year, we put together a bunch of Chanukah-themed foods to make a fun-to-enjoy Chanukah breakfast board.
If you’re the type of family that’s always rushing to the bus stop, serve this for dinner as a fun breakfast-for-dinner.
This board includes just some ideas…you’ll customize it to include the items that work for your family. We love the Driedel Pancakes made by the Dash Mini Dreidel Waffle Maker (so much fun for $9.99 and it doesn’t take up much space).
We cut toast into dreidel shapes (no need for a special cookie cutter, you can do this quickly with a knife). Add Chanukah gelt and marshmallows to enjoy some s’mores sandwiches and round it off with some fresh fruit.
In the middle is a Peanut Butter Maple dip that’s delicious on the toast or simply for dipping fruit or marshmallows.
What will you include in your Rosh Chodesh breakfast/dinner?
Peanut Butter Maple Dip:
- 4 tbsp peanut butter
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- Combine in a bowl. Microwave for 15-30 seconds. Mix to combine.

I have this dash waffle maker and it’s works fantastic! Just make sure to buy it and toivel it in advance so it has plenty of time to dry before using it.
