Do You Want to Prevent Your Chairs from Scratching Your Floors?

Are your dining room chairs scratching up your floor? We asked our readers for their solutions.

I was never concerned about my chairs scratching my wood floors… until I redid them.
They were sanded down, colored, shined and buffed. Now I most definitely wanted them to stay that way for as long as possible!

It seems that our readers are very passionate about keeping their dining room chairs from scratching their floors as well. They all shared with us some tried and true products that they love.
Note: If your floors are already scratched, see this post with tips on restoring them.

Also, are you planning an at-home simcha or renting tables for a party and don’t want the rentals scratching your floor? Dollar Tree sells felt pads that are perfect for the one-time uses.

EDITED: After trying out all the options, the Gorilla Felt Chair Floor Protectors were hands down the best options. They lasted a few months of constant use and easily replaceable.

Sock Legs

A bit ugly, but there are lots of votes for this one. Some said they love putting these socks on the bottom of the Ikea high chair so it’s easier to drag sans scratches. (You can use a rubber band to hold it in place if need be and put a second sock on top of that to cover it.)

Gorilla Felt Chair Floor Protectors

These get hammered into the bottom of the chair, plus they have Gorilla’s signature strength adhesive. Great for high traffic areas. To replace them, use a plier to yank the piece out and replace it with a new one.

Melon Boats

These are hard, clear plastics that go over the feet of each chair. They come in both round and square and in different widths, so measure your chair legs and order accordingly.

Snap On Furniture Pads

These also came highly recommended. You bang one part into the chair, and snap in the padded section. The snap feature makes it easy to remove and replace a used pad.

Nail-On Felt Pads

These are a more economical option, but they work very well too! Says one reader, “These are amazing. Stick them into the bottom and they stay put and work so well!”

Traditional Stick-On Felt Pads

These don’t last very long, but they’re better than nothing if you want the quickest invisible solution.

I have really skinny legs on my dining room chairs – around a half an inch. I can’t seem to find any solutions for that size! any recommendations?

      Silicone protectors describe the picture.
These, https://amzn.to/3bE5HiR, work for square and round legs! and fit a square leg as thin as 11/16″.
Silicone works for round and square, and MelonBoats come in square as well as round.

You don’t have a description for the ones in the picture above your title-they look intriguing, bec they don’t look like they need the felt. Pls add a description of those. Thanks

“These get hammered into the bottom of the chair, plus they have Gorilla’s signature strength adhesive.”

On what basis are you saying they have “Gorilla’s signature strength adhesive”? These do not in any way seem to be associated with Gorilla Glue or Gorilla Tape. The brand is “Slipstick”.
