How to Turn Basic Roses from Beautiful to Breathtaking

Your flowers will be more gorgeous than ever when you learn one simple floral trick.

One day, while choosing some flowers at Tali’s Global Flowers, I noticed one of the workers opening up the petals of a rose. While roses are beautiful on their own, once the rose petals were opened they were breathtaking. I asked if I could video it and then I went home to open my roses just like I saw in the store.

It was so easy to do, anyone I showed has now tried it on their own. This method is called “Reflexing Rose” and it takes any supermarket rose and turns it into an expensive-looking flower. It does not shorten the lifespan of the roses.

First and foremost, a good pair of florist scissors are a must. We mentioned that in the post arranging fresh flowers doesn’t need to be hard and we still hold by it. You can’t compare floral scissors to any scissor you own. Once you have this you’ll be a flower pro in no time.

Trim the bottom of the rose stem to fit your vase. Trim all extra leaves off the bottom, leaving a few on top and a clean stem on bottom.

As you can see the roses are beautiful just as they are. But watch what happens when we open them up.

Start by turning the most outer leaf gently, flipping out the petal.

Repeat with each petal

working towards the center, leaving a small bulb in the middle.

Most roses you can easily pull back around 4 layers of petals.

With your fingertips, “smush” the middle bulb gently opening it up. You don’t want to turn those leave outwards like the outside petals, you just want to open the middle slightly.

All done… What a beauty!
