Homemade Bubble Bath

Suddenly, they’re looking forward to bathtime. Make this part of your routine into a fun indoor activity for kids.

When the sun sets early, it’s cooler outside, and all the kids are indoors, suddenly 3 p.m. until bedtime feels like a long, long time.

When you have older kids, the evening moves along. Even if the little ones are home at 3, more come home at 4, another at 5, and you’re basically moving from dinner to homework without a chance to catch your breath.

And the little ones? They just go along with the flow of the house. There’s plenty of noise and they are very entertained. But what about when there’s just little kids in the house and you?

First, Moms of little kids, you should know that it gets easier!

But once you know that, now that you do have a house full of little kids, what do you do with them all afternoon?

One of my easy mom hacks is bathtime! Bathtime takes time, the mess is minimal, and you end up with clean kids!

In the past, we’ve shared bath toys you can buy, and a bathtime activity with foam shapes.

We’ve also shared how to make bubbles in the bath. It’s a great skill for little kids to learn, and it definitely keeps them busy for a while.

But what about the basics? What if you just want to give your kids a good old-fashioned bubble bath?

Yes, you can buy a good bubble bath soap. You can let them pour in lots of soap and hope for the best, or you can make your own bubble solution right in the tub.

Here’s what you need to make your homemade bubble bath:

  • 1/2 cup liquid soap, such as baby shampoo or wash, or a gentle body wash
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
  • 1 egg white (optional)
  • Warm running water

Here’s what to do:

Gently mix the soap, sugar, and optional egg white. Don’t overmix. Pour the mixture under the running faucet as the tub fills.

The running water helps create the bubbles, while the sugar helps them last longer. The egg white helps create slightly stiffer bubbles, but the recipe works just fine without it.

Throw in a bath bomb with a surprise inside, and you’ve got yourself some entertainment for those cold winter afternoons when it gets dark early!

Want an outdoor bubble solution? We’ve got that too!
