17 Fresh Menu Ideas for Shalosh Seudos

It’s time to add something fresh and vibrant to your seudah shelishit/shalosh seudos menu. Here are some ideas.

For most of my life, my father/brothers/husband/sons went to shul for mincha and stayed until after Shabbat was over It’s only in the past couple years, in my new neighborhood, that seudah shelishit has become a time when the whole family is again around the table for a long time of an hour or more.

And now, when everyone is actually hungry again, we can expand the menu a bit and know that the food will actually be wanted. With its lighter menu (and especially when we can incorporate dairy), seudah shelishit has actually become one of my family’s favorite meals.

Here are some ideas your family might enjoy.

The Avocado Board

This has been our most recent BCP shalosh seudos idea, and it has already revolutionized the way you serve the meal. So many of you have told that that you started bringing your beautiful avocado board to the table, and that they always get polished off.

Acai Board

Yes, we have seen the boards. They are popular and practically everywhere. But, that said, we can also agree that at any family gathering it’s the açaí board that gets finished first.

The Avocado Toast Bar

This was the precursor idea to the Avocado Board. It works!

Diced Mozzarella Salad

A refreshing dairy salad you can prep ahead of time and enjoy.

The Perfect Tuna Salad

This is the salad I serve for seudah shelishit when I have company. There’s no chopping involved and the only prep is making the tuna and sauteing mushrooms ahead of time. You can make the dressing or use any balsamic. It’s different than the typical tuna salad but everyone loves.

Bagel Chip Caesar Salad

If you want to serve a classic salad, but want to add just a twist, this salad is a great idea.

Shalosh Seudos Tablescape

Why not see a pretty shalosh seudos table setting while you’re collecting recipes?

The Sushi Salad

A classic for shalosh seudos–this is one of the best versions. If you want something lighter, like a lettuce-based sushi-inspired salad, see the popular Avocado Crunch Salad from Dinner Done!

Rainbow Quinoa Salad

A gorgeous salad that always goes. Everything can be prepped ahead. Perfect for when you’re hosting.

Corn and Feta Salad

This is one of those you wait until spring/summer to enjoy.

Frozen 9×13 Chocolate Bar Ice Cream

This was originally created as a seudah shelishit treat, and it ultimately became one of the most popular BCP recipes! Seudah shelishit is a great time to serve ice cream (skip the afternoon dessert, and wait until you can have dairy to treat yourself).

Tuna Ceviche

If you’re serving fish, ceviche is a great option because it’s served cold, and it’s a refreshing change.

Salmon Crudo

The same goes with this gorgeous salmon crudo, also featured in Dinner Done. It’s the perfect time to try it.

Olive Salad Dip

If you want to bring out a fresh dip to enjoy with your challah or sourdough, this is a great option.

Tomatoes & Olives

This one is the perfect topping for bread when you also have some cheese.

Cured Tuna

The fish alternative to jerky. If you like tuna you will love this.

Acai Bowls!

This is one of my most popular seudah shelishit items. I keep them in the freezer ready and topped with granola and fruit and take them out a couple hours before.

Fresh Pesto

There’s no recipe link here, but DON’T bring out the dips from your other Shabbos meals. Enjoy something fresh instead. Blend fresh basil (I’ve seen checked fresh basil at groceries lately) or fresh prepared pesto with a little lite mayo and enjoy that with your seudah shelishit bread. So refreshing.

    Thanks for this great roundup!
I was told that ceviche is not allowed to be made on Shabbos. If I make it before, would it last until shalosh seudos?
