Are you sick of doing the same three things every time you go out? Ready for some new ideas? Some of my favorites, below.
You know what’s really underrated? The importance of having fun with your spouse. And although going out to eat is always a safe bet, sometimes a date night enjoying a new activity can really give you a different dose of fun and bonding. And it can cost a lot less too! So below, activities we’ve either tried or are on our list, all under $100 (before you ask, no! That doesn’t include babysitting).
Let’s go!
- Axe-throwing: don’t underestimate how big your smile will be when you throw an axe as hard as you can. De-stress and have fun!
- Museum: Find whatever style makes you happy! Personally, I love pretending I’m educated in the arts and giving my critique.
- Escape room: You may have to search a bit to find one that you can complete on your own (without teaming up with strangers), but once you do, turn your detective skills on and just enjoy.
- Recreate first date: Did you go to a lounge? Don’t all answer at once! But just doing the evening over again can be a great trip down memory lane.
- Sports game: Does your husband have a favorite sport? If not, I highly recommend baseball. Not too hard to follow, reasonably-priced tickets, and often largely-empty stadiums.
- Paint night: You don’t have to be talented! We usually throw out the canvases pretty soon after. It’s about the experience, not the finished product.
- Sunset stroll: Come on, doesn’t ‘sunset stroll’ sound better than a ‘walk around the block?’ Once you have the babysitter already, find a park and just enjoy. Bring drinks along for extra yum.
- Play hooky for a day date: Do you even remember what it’s like to spend time during the day without kids?! When life gets really busy, sometimes getting out at night is too hard. So every now and again, call out from work and spend it doing…anything! During the day! How fun does that sound?
Now, sometimes we have the best of intentions to prioritize date-night, but we just can’t get out of the house (and playing hooky isn’t always an option!). Here are a few things you can do at home: pair with a delicious dinner and you’re set.
- At-home paint night: there are lots of free tutorials for an at-home paint night, and you can shipt the paint, brushes, and canvases straight to your door.
- Board game: Shh, don’t tell the kids we’re playing without them. Pair with a mixed drink and cozy throw.
- Sushi-making: Calling the super-ambitious! Grab this sushi-making set and give it your best go.
- Puzzle: When the kids were little, we kept a 1000 piece puzzle under the playroom rug that we rolled up and worked on after bedtime! We never managed to finish it, but really, it’s all about the journey.

Fun to go for just dessert at a restaurant. Eat before, and you’re not starving and eating the whole outing… very cute and enjoyable
