Laundry Hanging Solutions When Short on Space

There are clothes hanging everywhere! Here’s four quick ways to get more hanging space and bring some order back to the hang-dry laundry.

Whenever we post a laundry topic, readers get excited–this always surprises us. I mean, do you really all love doing laundry?

If you’re just getting started, we have our Beginners Guide to Laundry and our Yeshiva Bochur’s Quick Guide, which are both great for newlyweds and singles.

Then we have the general tips which help even the seasoned laundry do-er. There’s our great big list of laundry tips, how to get whiter whites and softer laundry, products for removing stains, and the best way to remove grease stains (somehow that’s always a separate problem…) and how to remove underarm stains in white shirts–one of these topics might just solve your latest laundry problem. If you are still reading and all these topics interest you, you may enjoy our extensive organizing and cleaning section!

Back to laundry. Another issue many of you have is the lack of ample hanging space. This is an issue even in homes with nice sized laundry rooms–we can all use more hanging space! So, we’ve been on the lookout for products that make sense.

Collapsible Drying Racks

These collapsible drying racks are wall mounted and hold 60 lb each! When closed they take up virtually no space but open up to allow you to hang a large quantity of clothing.

Retractable Hanging Rack

If you have less space and just want to hang 6-8 items at a time (lots of white shirts?), this is a nice, sleek pick. It’s great for apartments and small spaces. They look nice and sleek too!

Command Clothing Organizer

If you like Command products because you don’t want to be screwing items into the wall (if you’re in a rental or just not handy), this is a quick fix.

Over the Door Hanger

If you’re already hanging hangers on every possible door, this might make more sense. We like it because you can easily put it away when not in use.

Between Carpools

Between Carpools is a collaboration between five talented friends who like to get a lot of stuff done “between carpools.” Since 2016, we’ve been sharing home and organizing tips, parenting insights, activities, how-to’s and DIYs, and of course, entertaining ideas, recipes, and inspiring reads both on the site and app.

I don’t know how many people “love doing laundry” but bh esp as our families grow, it is a big part of running a home, and everyone is looking for ways to make it simpler. Tips and tricks and new products much appreciated! Especially if you have a bunch of girls and it feels like EVERYTHING they own needs to be hung up, hanging solutions are very helpful, especially in small spaces. Thank you

I use a shower curtain rod across one entire wall of my laundry room. A bit claustrophobic but it works!

I hang the laundry in the doorway to the room it belongs in, or the closet doorway. The hangers hook into the molding over the door.

I have this drying rack. It’s big but has TONZ of space and is on wheels and folds up so it’s pretty practical imho

any ideas for hanging laundry outside (drying it in the sun bleaches stubborn stains) but on the inconspicuous side because my backyard isn’t super private? (meaning, no laundry lines spanning the width of my yard…)
