What do you serve on Chol Hamoed Shabbos on Pesach?
When Pesach Chol Hamoed Shabbos falls at the end of a three day Yom Tov, it’s a tricky one. When it’s another Yom Tov, it’s simple–you simply put up your regular cholent and you’re good to go. But what do you serve on Pesach to have something fresh and hot for that day?
Before our first Pesach season on BCP we knew we needed to feature a solid Pesach cholent and we knew just the one: We asked Naomi Nachman to share her Pesach cholent recipe from Perfect for Pesach.
What if your family doesn’t want cholent? Or you need more than just cholent to serve a crowd?
We rounded up our top recipes we like to serve on Shabbos morning. These are more hot items that you can serve as a cholent alternative:
Crock-Pot Overnight Potato Kugel (our fav hack of the year)
Navel Pastrami (See Crock-Pot instructions)
Crock-Pot Corned Beef (best way to prep!)
Pesach Yapchik
Once you have your hot item, you may need another item to round out the meal. These are meats and other upgraded dishes that can be easily warmed or can be served cold/at room temperature:
Oven Smoked Brisket
Make Your Own Beef Jerky
Turkey London Broil
How to Keep Fried Foods Fresh and Crispy
When serving schnitzel that has been prepped ahead, it’s best to fry and freeze the schnitzel. Early Shabbos morning, simply remove it from the freezer and bring it to room temperature. Once you place schnitzel in the refrigerator, it tends to get soggy and gummy tasting.
Sweet Potato Chip Salad (this is great with grilled chicken added in)

London broil salad is a great appetizer for Shabbos morning seudah. Warm up on top of crock pot and you have a delicious beginning to your seudah.

Hi-
Been thinking about this….
Does making crockpot dishes mean you need to keep your crockpot on for all 3 days?
Chava says
I always keep my crockpot on a timer. There are daily and weekly timers, so I have it go on exactly when I need it to.

You can leave it on low with just water if you are not reheating/cooking anything in it until erev Shabbos.

You can leave it on low, filled with a little water, if you are not using it to reheat or cook anything until erev Shabbos! See the book Pesach While You Sleep.
